The applications of molybdenum
The consumption of molybdenum and molybdenum alloy, molybdenum plate, molybdenum rods, molybdenum tube and molybdenum crucible accounts for about 6% of the world total molybdenum consumption. Molybdenum has high melting point and high boiling point, good high temperature strength, good corrosion resistance, large thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient, good harden ability and other advantages. So it is widely used in aerospace, weapons, electronics, chemical industry and other fields.
The recovery of the satellite reentry must overcome the flow of hot gas erosion. Therefore, it needs to bear the environment of the vibration, shock, vacuum, radiation and changeable temperature. The molybdenum alloy is used to make the stable skirt skin of satellite recovery tank. TZM molybdenum alloy is also used for making nozzle of solid rocket engine fuel production space rockets or the space shuttle, the rocket nose cone, the leading edge of the aircraft, the rudder, thermal protective screen, and honeycomb structure.
The weapon industry not only uses molybdenum steel as armored tank, but also use the corrosion resistance characteristics of TZM and TZC molybdenum alloy as the overall turbine impeller used for cruise missile. In addition, it also used as a helium turbine impeller of high temperature gas cooled nuclear with difficult reactor.
Molybdenum used in the electronic industry is widely used in various power electronic tube grid, plate and advanced electric light source lead out, because it has high melting, low coefficient of thermal expansion and low secondary electron emission rate and other advantages. Now the research believed that, a small amount of silicon, aluminum and potassium adding are added to molybdenum, this can make the second crystallization temperature higher 700℃ than the pure molybdenum, and the temperature can up to 1800~1900 ℃. So it is widely used as heating element, heat shield and so on.
