Molybdenum-Tungsten Alloys Applications
The most important field of application for molybdenum-tungsten alloys today is probably hot galvanizing.
For this purpose, the MOLY B 60 (Mo30W) alloy is prefered. MOLY B 60 (Mo30W) is sufficiently resistant to zinc melts on the one hand, and on the other hand, its moderate tungsten content also enables good mechanical working, so that formed parts of all kinds can be made from this alloy without great difficulty.
As an example, for hot galvanizing plants, pump wheels, shafts for pump wheels, suspension and transport facilities, etc., are made from MOLY B 60 (Mo30W).
Because of high melting point and great high-temperature stability, molybdenum-tungsten alloys are also used as high-temperature materials. Their application should be considered if temperatures of over 1650 ℃ prevail but the great high-temperature stability of unalloyed tungsten is not yet impaired.
Other considerations in favour of molybdenum-tungsten alloys as heating conductors for high-temperature furnaces are their relatively high electrical resistance values.
